B.Sc (Hons) Malaya, LLB (Hons) London, CLP Considered a legend, Mr. Peter Ooi Say Lee is the pinnacle of legal excellence as the Managing Partner of the esteemed firm of Abraham Ooi & Partners (AOP). His journey began with academic accolades, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Malaya in 1984, prior to delving into the legal realm. His zeal for legal scholarship led him to acquire his Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from London in 1991, swiftly followed by the attainment of the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in 1992. His dedication culminated in his call to the Malaysian Bar on March 11th, 1994. Mr. Ooi's ascension within the firm was rapid, rising to the esteemed rank of Partner in 1994. Since then, he has been an unwavering pillar, delving into diverse domains of law, a triple threat in the areas of conveyancing, banking, and litigation. TANG CHIN SIONG

LLB (Hons) London; CLP Mr. Tang Chin Siong, a Partner with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London, embarked on his legal voyage in 1999, later becoming a member of the Malaysian Bar in 2002. Prior to his formal legal education, he served as a Chief Secretary in the firm's Kajang Office before officially joining in 1993. As the current Partner in the Kuala Lumpur Office, Mr. Tang specialises in a multifaceted array of conveyancing matters, demonstrating extensive expertise in joint ventures, and advising on property acquisitions. His mastery extends to handling commercial and property-related financing transactions, navigating conventional and Islamic loans adeptly. CHOO WENG PEI, ELONA

LB (Hons) Malaya Ms. Choo Weng Pei, known as Elona, is an exemplary lawyer who embodies accountability, responsiveness, independence, and persistence. Graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Malaya, she embarked on her legal journey, gaining pivotal wisdom during her pupillage at CT Choo & Co under the mentorship of Mr. Choo Chin Thye. Her mentor instilled in her the importance of exercising patience, and refraining from forming judgements until one obtains a comprehensive understanding of the situation. NG LAY KHIM

LLB (Hons) Malaya Hailing from Klang, Ms. Ng Lay Khim commenced her legal journey with a Bachelor of Laws from the esteemed University of Malaya, subsequently being called to the Bar on January 5th, 2009, as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Initiating her career at AOP, she entered as a pupil in chambers in July 2007, under the mentorship of a former Partner at the firm. Her pivotal learning during this time was an in-depth understanding of handling conveyancing cases, an expertise she has honed since she started practicing law in January 2008. Her professional forte encompasses Banking, Sale & Purchase transactions, and Tenancy matters, reflecting her caring, sincere, and helpful nature in how she handles legal cases, and collaborates with clients. In her long tenure with AOP, one of her most memorable cases involves the RHB Bank Loan in 2010 as it required legal opinions from solicitors in the United Kingdom, showcasing her proficiency in international legal collaborations. Her prowess in navigating substantial financial transactions is also undeniable—one of her proudest achievements was successfully overseeing a Sale & Purchase Agreement that amounted to more than RM129mil. She believes that her extensive practice in the field has taught her crucial lessons, particularly of practicing the legal profession with care and dignity. Elevating her status within the firm, Ms. Ng was appointed Partner at the Klang Office on March 15th, 2014, underscoring her adeptness in conveyancing and banking matters. Her responsibilities chiefly revolve around handling intricate legal intricacies within these domains, contributing significantly to the firm's growth and success. LEE TECK BEE, MICHELLE

LLB (Hons) Malaya Ms. Lee Teck Bee, or as she’s known, Michelle, stands as an accomplished Partner with a penchant for meticulousness, diligence, and unwavering persistence within the intricate realms of law. Her journey commenced at the University of Malaya, culminating in a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree, laying the groundwork for her extensive legal career. Having honed her expertise through pivotal mentorship under Mr. Shane Cheng, a Partner overseeing the litigation department at Messrs Jeff Leong, Poon & Wong, Michelle gained a profound understanding of litigation processes. Her early experiences also gave her exposure to corporate and conveyancing matters, enriching her repertoire. Since June 2011, Michelle has focused her legal prowess primarily on conveyancing matters and intricate retail, commercial, and corporate banking issues in both conventional and Islamic financing. A little over two years later, she took the experience she’d gained to the shores of AOP in September 2013. At the time, the mid-sized firm held formidable expertise across diverse legal arenas, which she believed to be an ideal platform for furthering her legal skills. At AOP, she plays a pivotal role in guiding the legal team, fostering a culture of parallel commitment, and expedited yet flawless legal settlements. For Michelle, the cases she thrives on are those that present new challenges, demanding comprehensive research, and complex navigation while liaising with authorities to ensure flawless legal outcomes. Her decade-long tenure in AOP has been essentially sharpening her problem-solving acumen, resolving issues for clients swiftly and impeccably, with each successful case a matter of pride. BONG XIN WEI, SALLY

Ms. Bong Xin Wei, known as Sally, hails from Georgetown, Penang, and boasts a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Malaya. With over four years of legal practice and expertise in Family Law, Will & Probate, Banking Law, Strata Management, and Commercial Law, she is characterised as meticulous, adaptable, responsive, detail-oriented, and empathetic. Her journey began at Messrs. Yew Huoi, How & Associates, where she honed her skills in client relationship building, legal research, and drafting under the tutelage of Mr. Ng Yew Huoi, the firm's Founder & Managing Partner. Thanks to her early years in practice, Sally's forte now lies in negotiating favourable settlements that serve her clients' best interests. Joining AOP in January 2022, Sally was enticed by the firm's renowned reputation and prospects for career advancement. Currently, as an Associate, she handles legal research, document drafting, and court representations. Her tenure at AOP has enriched her in time management, a crucial skill while concurrently managing banking portfolios, and individual files. Her proudest career achievement involves efficiently handling multiple responsibilities. Her standout case involved a significant civil suit and winding-up petitions against a company disputing a guaranteed rental return. Successfully navigating through complex legal manoeuvres, Sally managed to negotiate a substantial settlement of more than RM200K for her client, receiving accolades for her diligence and strategy. Her ambitious future goals include optimising the firm's new website, expanding the litigation department, attracting new clients, and achieving promotion to partner within the next five years. Sally also aspires to handle complex cases, and aims to become a certified mediator.

CHAN PEI LING

Ms. Chan Pei Ling, hailing from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from Multimedia University (Melaka Campus) in 2019. With over two years of practice since January 2021, she specialises primarily in Conveyancing, leveraging her prowess in English, Chinese, and Malay to communicate effectively across diverse clienteles. Known for her wit, resourcefulness, and responsibility, Ms. Chan prides herself on providing exceptional client service through personalised attention, clear communication, and a proactive approach to address clients' concerns. Beginning her professional journey at AOP in January 2021, Ms. Chan was drawn to the firm's reputation in conveyancing, and its commitment to high standards. Her most impactful case at the firm involved an innovative approach to a High Court auction matter, leading her to since seek creative problem-solving beyond standard practices in all her challenging cases. CHER SIEW XUAN

Meet Ms. Cher Siew Xuan, an industrious legal associate hailing from Kuantan, Pahang. Armed with a Bachelor of Laws from the esteemed University of Malaya, and fresh off her pupillage at Mah-Kamariyah & Philip Koh, her journey in the legal realm commenced in August 2020. Under the tutelage of Partner Mr. Tang Chin Siong, her tenure at AOP since September 2020 has been rewarding as she gained a sharp eye for detail, and cultivated the art of deftly handling contract-related intricacies, especially in immovable property transactions with Mr. Tang’s hands-on approach. This was exemplified in a recent complex Sale & Purchase transaction where she expertly navigated issues related to a deceased vendor's estate, and quit rent payment complications, ensuring a smooth transaction process for the client. Ms. Cher’s time at AOP has honed her collaboration skills, recognising the importance of effective communication among colleagues, while simultaneously honing her capabilities in managing various property transactions. Renowned for her diligence, knowledge, and sense of responsibility, her forte really lies in her commitment to understanding each client's unique requirements. EU JUN YIN, EDWINA

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Ms. Eu Jun Yin (Edwina) is a proficient lawyer specialising in Employment, Construction, Contractual Disputes, Tenancy Disputes, and Banking law. Edwina commenced her legal career in December 2016 after earning a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from Aberystwyth University, UK. GOH CHING SHIEN

A dedicated legal professional from Kota, Negeri Sembilan, Ms. Goh Ching Shien is equipped with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the prestigious University of Malaya. Under the mentorship of Mr. Manian Raju at Krishna Dallumah, Manian & Indran during her pupillage in 2014, Ms. Goh garnered invaluable skills in research, drafting, and the indispensable qualities of passion and dedication towards her work. Originating from Sibu, Sarawak, Ms. Jasmine Ha embodies dedication and a passion for conveyancing law. Graduating with a Bachelor in Laws (Hons) from University of Malaya, she honed her skills in legal finesse under the tutelage of Ms. Tan Wan Yean, a Senior Legal Associate at Anad & Noraini. Since commencing her legal practice in July 2013, Ms. Lai has excelled in diverse areas such as Real Estate, Corporate, and Banking & Finance. Joining AOP in July 2019 was a strategic move for Ms. Lai, driven by the desire to nurture personal growth within the legal industry. Ms. Lee Jing Ni from Melaka is known for being resilient, articulate, diligent, meticulous, and practical, whose career began at the esteemed University of Malaya, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2016. During her pupillage from 2016 to 2017 at Ganendrah & Associates, Ms. Lee embraced the philosophy of "K.I.S.S. - Keep it short and simple" from her mentor Mr. Ganendrah Chellappah, simplifying complex legal concepts into understandable terms for clients. This approach characterises her legal practice even today, distilling complex legalities into practical solutions that are simple to understand, and tailored to clients’ needs. Transitioning from litigation to her current focus in conveyancing and banking finance, Ms. Lee discovered her niche in AOP in November 2019. Specialising in Real Estate, Banking & Finance, and Joint Venture Agreements, she has learned the equal importance of meticulous management of both files and clients, and legal compliance. A significant case involved navigating a complex Sale & Purchase Agreement for a Dato’, showcasing her expertise in identifying issues at the onset, effectively finding solutions, and securing her client's trust and respect through tactful communication. In the past year, she successfully managed the drawdown of solar panel financing and contract financing files for one of the largest supermarket chains in the country, solidifying client trust in her conveyancing expertise. Looking forward, Ms. Lee aims to master various real estate transactions, and enhance client and colleague relationships to foster exceptional collaboration and service delivery. She aspires to take on more challenging cases, and play a pivotal role in shaping the firm's success within the legal industry.

LEE PEI SHAN, DEBBIE

From 2012 to 2017, Ms. Lee Pei Shan, a legal professional originating from Klang, Selangor, completed her legal education, attaining her Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of London, and later furthering her expertise with a Certificate in Legal Practice (Malaysia) at Brickfields Asia College. Under the guidance of a Partner during pupillage at Messrs Ting & Ting from January 2018, Ms. Lee gained profound legal knowledge coupled with a flair for marketing. Commencing her practice in August 2019, Ms. Lee specialises in an array of legal domains such as Conveyancing, Personal, SME & Commercial Loan Banking, Construction Contracts, Will Writing, Leasing & Tenancy Agreements, and Legal Consulting and Advice. In all these areas, her versatility and ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances have become her signature strengths. Joining AOP in June 2022, she sought better career prospects, professional growth, and new challenges. Her role as a Legal Associate has allowed her to contribute significantly to the firm; in one case in particular, she successfully supervised the procedures from start to finish, and fostered a robust rapport with the developer, a project that had profound impact. Throughout her tenure, her most valuable lesson has been in SME and Commercial Loan Banking, an area she initially lacked expertise in, but has since mastered. Noteworthy within the past year has been her contribution in implementing innovative solutions that streamlined processes, and boosted efficiency within the firm, demonstrating her proactivity, and collaborative spirit. In the short term, Ms. Lee aims to complete skills enhancement courses, and enhance client engagement, while her long-term aspiration is to acquire leadership experience within AOP. LIM KHAI KIM

A Penang girl from Butterworth, Ms. Lim Khai Kim completed her Bachelor of Law (Hons) from Queen Mary University in London, followed by the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) in 2019. That same year, she was called to the Bar of England and Wales at the City Law School, Lincoln’s Inn, and later to the Malaysian Bar in January 2021. Her mentor, Dato’ Lim Choon Khim, Managing Partner at Messrs. Chooi Saw & Lim, impressed upon her a unique perspective of success, one with less emphasis on a win-or-lose outcome, but rather on cultivating resilience and adaptability in complex legal situations. Specialising in Conveyancing and Property, Banking, Finance and Securities, Wealth Management, and Inheritance and Succession Planning, Ms. Lim is known for her meticulousness, diligence, reliability, and efficiency. Joining AOP in July 2023, she was enticed by the firm's esteemed reputation and robust relationships with banks and financial institutions, and efficient administration. Her unique value lies in her exceptional ability to fuse legal expertise with clear communication, prioritising clients' needs to build trust, and deliver optimal outcomes. In her tenure at AOP, a significant case involved securing a property from a bank's auction, albeit terminated later due to the vendor's default. However, her commitment to journeying with the client was noteworthy, resulting in the client later entrusting them with another higher-value case. Her prowess is no surprise, as she has also successfully expedited fund disbursements within two weeks from file opening, resolving urgent financial needs. Evidently, her AOP journey thus far has honed her time management and organisational skills, and she looks forward to specialising in complex facilities matters, contributing to high-profile deals, and cultivating strong professional relationships, both within the firm, and with esteemed clients. LIU LEE TING, TRACY

Sarawakian Ms. Liu Lee Ting, known as Tracy, embodies dedication and precision in the domain of conveyancing law. Graduating with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from the University of Leeds, and subsequently completing the Barrister Course at the University of West of England, Bristol, she embarked on her legal journey, refining her skills at the esteemed firm of J.M. Chong, Vincent Chee & Co. Tracy’s formative training honed her drafting and research acumen while strengthening her communication between legal practitioners and clients to ensure in-depth case comprehension. With over a decade of legal practice, she continues to be recognised for her responsibility, meticulousness, and exemplary time management skills. Joining AOP in August 2018 marked a new chapter in her career. Tracy was enticed by the firm's established reputation and the potential for professional growth. Her multifaceted role at AOP primarily focuses on marketing, where she developed her prowess in cultivating relationships with clients, bankers, and developers. Her most impactful case involved a large furniture manufacturing company, where her strategic liaison with Public Bank Berhad secured a substantial RM35mil commercial loan, resolving the client's long-standing loan issues. NG WEI HUI, EMILY

Originally from Ipoh, Perak, Emily Ng Wei Hui entered the legal arena after acquiring her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Malaya. Her professional journey commenced under the guidance of Mr. Ng Yew Huoi, the Managing Partner at Messrs Yew Huoi, How & Associates, during her pupillage. This pivotal experience served as the foundation for her tenure as a legal associate, imparting her with invaluable insights and skills. Since her entry into legal practice in July 2019, Emily has excelled across a diverse spectrum of legal areas, prominently in Conveyancing, Banking, Commercial, Corporate, and Family law. Drawn by the opportunity in AOP to expand her legal acumen and skills, Emily joined the firm in January 2022, committed to broadening her expertise. Her impact in the firm was highlighted when a client specifically requested for her involvement in a case despite there already being a lawyer assigned, affirming the trust she has garnered among her clients through her diligent and client-centric approach. At AOP, Emily continually hones her organisational skills, an essential attribute for handling large volumes of legal documents efficiently within stringent timelines. On top of that, her adaptability allows her to deliver exceptional results consistently. YAP YIK YEE

Kuala Lumpur born and bred, Ms. Yap Yik Yee embarked on her legal journey, armed with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), and later, a Master's in Commercial Law from prestigious institutions like the University of London (Brickfields Asia College), and the University of Malaya. Her formative years in law were nurtured under the tutelage of Mr. Rusdy bin Ishak, a Partner at Messrs Lim & Yeoh, where she honed her litigation prowess, and court examination skills from scratch. Since her legal debut in September 2015, Ms. Yap has excelled across multifaceted domains, specialising in Civil Litigation, Probate & Administration, Conveyancing, and Corporate law. Described by peers as tenacious, persistent, persuasive, and a dedicated team player, she attributes her unique edge to an insatiable thirst for learning. Ms. Yap sought new horizons beyond her seasoned practice areas, joining AOP in January 2023. Within that time, she oversaw a complex transaction amidst a developer's liquidation, navigating negotiations with liquidators, bankers, clients, and other lawyers. While not a substantial transaction, the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction she derived from resolving the matter echoed the importance it held for her client. In her tenure at AOP, Ms. Yap’s immersion in corporate financing was a learning curve, expanding her legal acumen, and refining her communication skills with clients and bankers. Indeed, mastering corporate financing from the ground up has been her proudest milestone in the past year. She hopes to continue mastering corporate financing intricacies, while she has her sights set on marketing skills in the future. Ms. Yap looks forward to evolving into a more distinguished legal professional, delivering impeccable service and excellence in all her legal endeavours.

YIW SUH XIAN, SUZANNE

Ms. Yiw Suh Xian left her hometown of Banting, Selangor to earn her Bachelor of Law degree from University of Leeds. Her dedication to legal expertise expanded further with a Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2015. Under the mentorship of Mr. Chris Lim Su Heng, her nine-month pupillage was a transformative period that accentuated her finesse in corporate drafting, and client conferencing. Commencing her legal practice in January 2019, Ms. Yiw specialises in Conveyancing, Corporate, and Intellectual Property law, recognised by peers as tenacious, analytical, diligent, and persevering. Beyond legal circles, she serves as an Area Superintendent for St John Ambulance Malaysia, Negeri Selangor, demonstrating her commitment to community service, and leadership roles. Due to what she believed was a reputation for conveyancing expertise, and a commitment to safeguarding clients’ interests, Ms. Yiw was drawn into the halls of AOP in December 2021. She was not disappointed—she has since polished her skills in managing clients and colleagues, organisation, and communication. She is entirely motivated by novel challenges that require her astute analytical skills and problem-solving, turning them into meaningful opportunities for growth and research. Priding herself on swiftly closing cases within tight deadlines, Ms. Yiw’s aims to enhance her legal knowledge and skill sets as well as networking, legal expertise, and case management at AOP. She eagerly anticipates not only handling a more diverse range of cases, but also forging collaborations with professionals from various disciplines with AOP in the future.
